Ldapsearch Windows greatly assists users in verifying information and configuration to prevent problems from arising during LDAP configuration. But if you are a newbie, you will surely encounter many difficulties working with this tool, especially setting up Ldapsearch Windows.
The Trustguide article guides you to complete this challenge spectacularly using AD LDS. Working with LDAPS is easier than you think if you scroll down!
Ldapsearch Windows- Overview
The built-in tool Ldapsearch, available in all LDAP server vendors, plays a role in pre-configuration information checking. By running Ldapsearch, you can save time on information validation and hassle while configuring a central monitoring server.
In terms of the working mechanism, it is quite similar to how the ping command works. If the command’s input value is correct, you’ll get the usage value you’re looking for.
In case of an error, you will not get any positive results but the error message. The two most common causes of this situation include an invalid server and an incorrect password.
Depending on your server’s classification, you will have different methods of configuring LDAP authentication. For example, users of the central monitoring server can only complete the task by using this tool. Meanwhile, Tivoli server users can use the admin console “TEPS/e”.
Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS)- Overview
AD LDS (formerly ADAM) is a standalone LDAP server like Active Directory. However, it can work on servers that are not domain controllers (such as member servers), which Active Directory cannot. This independence allows it to have greater autonomy over directory services and control over directories.
LDS uses APIs to access application data, such as systems.DirectoryServices, Lightweight Data Access Protocol, Active Directory Service Interfaces, and Active Directory. In terms of use, it caters to directory-enabled applications without any domain overhead.
However, AD LDS does not provide the same infrastructure capabilities as AD. Specifically, it does not contain directory services for the operating system but focuses on the requirements of each specific application. This tool does not support the Messaging Application Programming Interface, resulting in incompatibility with Microsoft Exchange.
